Through these courses, we aim to build knowledge, confidence, and practical skills that directly improve support for autistic young people.

TEACCH training

TEACCH is an evidence-based approach to learning for autistic people of all ages. It is at the very heart of our approach and we have strong links with the University of North Carolina where TEACCH originated.

Our staff are vital to our young people's success and we aim to equip them with our specialist autism knowledge so they can provide the best possible care for our young people. An exceptional number of our staff are TEACCH-trained to a high level.

We offer three levels of TEACCH training courses:

  • 3 Day Structured Teaching - Based on the TEACCH Model - a three-day introduction to the theory and practical applications of Structured Teaching, delivered by Prior's Court TEACCH Certified Advanced Consultants and Practitioners.
    Next course dates - August 25 to 27, 2026 and May 18 to 20, 2027
  • 5-Day TEACCH course - a broad-based intensive course for parents and professionals working with autistic individuals. It provides both the theoretical and practical applications of Structured Teaching. The course is suitable for all those who have been working with autism for some time and wish to broaden and deepen their knowledge. The course will give learners an overview of autism from a historical and theoretical perspective before moving on to practical strategies to support autistic people.
    Next course dates - November 2 to November 6, 2026, and February 8 to February 12, 2027
  • Beyond the Basics - an extension of the content presented at the 5-Day TEACCH training that will help professionals move beyond the basics. Includes a focus on coaching and supporting other professionals.
Designed as a continuation of professional development for those who have previously completed the 5-Day Hands-On TEACCH® Classroom Training, this course explores advanced applications of Structured TEACCHing strategies. Participants will engage in a range of interactive sessions including presentations, case studies, discussions, and group assignments.
Next course - TBC (register for training update emails to be among the first to know the next date.)

Why choose Prior's Court for a TEACCH course?

Recent delegates who have completed the 5-Day course held at Prior's Court in February 2026 said:

“I liked the fact that we were surrounded by experts, the level of expertise was obvious. I liked the structure of the training. It was supportive but it did challenge. If it wasn't hands on, I would not have learnt so much.”
“The staff of Prior’s Court were wonderful to work with and the course itself was the best I think I've ever been on. Learnt more in those 5 days than my teacher training. I'm very grateful. ”

100% of respondents to our survey issued after the February course said they were "very satisfied" with the training overall, and would recommend the course to a friend or colleague.

During World Autism Acceptance Week 2025, Prior’s Court hosted a series of insightful talks exploring a range of topics related to autism.

One talk explored an overview of our Prior Approach, the specialist autism approach we use at Prior's Court based on TEACCH principles. This talk was presented by three members of our staff - Emma Barnes, Therapy Lead; Sue Piper, then Director of Learning; and Ruth Over, Autism Practice and Development Lead.
