Our education & residential care A first look inside: Young people begin using our new performing arts centre This month has marked a special moment at Prior’s Court, as the first group of autistic young people with complex needs we support have begun using the new performing arts centre - a milestone that reflects years of planning, fundraising, and dedication. Although the building is not yet fully complete - with some final fitting-out work still to do- the opportunity for young people to begin exploring and rehearsing in the space is an exciting and important step forward. Preparing for a grand opening The young people currently using the space are preparing for a special event: the official opening of the centre taking place next month, at which the young people will be front and centre. After the first session earlier this month, Tanya Morgan, our Performing Arts Co-lead, said: “The young people really appeared to enjoy the space, lots of exploring the rooms and spaces to begin with. Considering this is a brand-new space for the young people after exploring, they all engaged / played and participated in the rehearsal.” Acoustic panels and signage (including matchboards with symbols for young people) are among the last elements to be installed. This is why currently only selected young people (due to take part in the grand opening) are being supported to access the location. With the acoustic panels and matchboards being vital to sensory regulation and navigation of the centre for young people, we do not want to expose all young people at Prior's Court to the centre until the environment is ideal for them and they get that all-important positive first experience of the centre. A glimpse of what’s to come This early use of the centre offers a glimpse into its future impact. Whether through dance, music, drama or film, the centre will play a vital role in enriching the lives of the young people we support. We look forward to sharing more as the centre moves towards completion and the official opening event takes place in June.
