News & events Adventure and achievement: Dove Cottage young adults explore Calvert Devon Earlier this month, Dove Cottage young adults Imprahim and Jamie enjoyed a holiday with a difference - an adventurous weekend at Calvert Devon, an accessible outdoor activity centre. This was a brand-new experience for our young adults, made possible thanks to the support of staff members Colin, Sarah and Nyree. The group arrived at Calvert Trust on Friday, 13 June to less-than-ideal weather. It was raining, and at first, both young adults expressed a wish to return home. However, thanks to visual supports prepared ahead of the trip and gentle reassurance about the activities planned for Saturday and Sunday, both Imprahim and Jamie were able to settle in and look forward to the days ahead. Saturday began with a session of archery. Jamie fully embraced the moment, imagining himself as Robin Hood, while Imprahim impressed everyone with his skills. Later in the day, the group took part in adapted cycling around the scenic Wistlandpound Reservoir. Jamie led the way with Colin and instructor Ben, while Sarah and Imprahim enjoyed the ride together on a side-by-side bike. Sarah said, “I have never heard both young adults laugh so much before! It was such a joyful moment, especially when we splashed through big puddles and zoomed down steep hills.” On Sunday, the group tried canoeing on the reservoir - a clear highlight of the trip. “This was probably the most memorable part of the weekend,” Sarah added. “Both young adults had such fun paddling along, watching the ducks, and just relaxing in the calm, peaceful setting.” A huge thank you to our dedicated team who helped make this an incredible and meaningful adventure. They are a chance to try new things, build confidence, strengthen relationships and enjoy experiences that create lasting memories. And each holiday is designed bespoke to what the young adult's interests are. Read more young people's achievements Manage Cookie Preferences
