Kaylan has just completed his third year in our bakery, and the progress he’s been making is wonderful to see.

Now working towards more advanced I Can statements (tasks), Kaylan’s confidence and independence have grown significantly. One of his proudest achievements this year is mastering the art of icing gingerbread – a skill he took to naturally, simply picking up the icing bag and getting started.

Over time, Kaylan has moved from being prompt-dependent to showing real initiative. He now walks into the bakery, washes his hands, and begins work without needing reminders – a clear sign of his growing knowledge of what is required of him in the bakery.

Kaylan can make more or less everything product in our range and he’s also taken on using machinery such as the ovens and bread-slicing equipment. All with the use of a 5 x 5 schedule to help him know what he is doing during his session.

The bakery sessions bring more than just skills – they bring calm. On anxious days, Kaylan relaxes as his sessions goes on, showing how they bakery is a safe place for him. His steady progression is a fantastic example of what long-term engagement in a structured, supportive environment can achieve.

The bakery at Prior’s Court is an industry-standard, fully equipped facility which supports autistic young people with complex needs at Prior’s Court to gain vocational skills.
