Eight new bakers have been busy in the bakery this academic year, including Joel, Ewan, and Ryan, who all made their debuts at the beginning of September, successfully completing their first month in the bakery!

All eight young people have been working with our bakery team Scott and Aline, focusing on their food safety I Can Statements which includes skills like washing hands, cleaning, and wearing the appropriate PPE. They are also being introduced to some new recipes which Ryan, Joel, and Ewan have all been able to tackle in their sessions so far, making two or three different items per session.

They have been practising skills such as measuring, mixing, and using machinery (including the big industry-standard ovens) to produce some beautiful and delicious cakes for everyone around site to enjoy.

They have all been doing incredibly well with these new vocational skills, something that is at the heart of teaching at Prior's Court. A huge part of our ethos is teaching the young people we support skills that they will be able to take with them after they leave, with the ultimate goal being using these skills to access the world of work.
