Our education & residential care Outdoor screen will increase opportunities to learn There is a new installation at the Performing Arts Centre ahead of the project nearly being completed - the installation of a large screen in the outdoor learning area. This new addition is more than just a piece of technology - it’s a valuable tool that will help us to further support the creativity, communication and wellbeing of the autistic young people with complex needs who live and learn at Prior’s Court. Enhancing accessibility to the arts The Performing Arts Centre is designed to provide a flexible, supportive environment for young people to explore music, dance, drama and other performing arts in a way that meets their individual needs. The addition of an outdoor screen will enable us to offer even more accessible, sensory-considerate opportunities. For some autistic young people, indoor settings - even when adapted - can still feel overwhelming, especially when they are new areas. Outdoor performances or viewings on the screen will provide a lower-stimulation alternative that opens the door to greater participation and enjoyment. And the screen can be used for teaching by streaming a lesson from inside the centre to the outdoor screen. Centre update: nearing completion The fit-out phase of the Performing Arts Centre is now in its final stages. Acoustic panels and signage (including matchboards with symbols for young people) are among the last elements to be installed, bringing the space ever closer to full functionality.
