Peter started doing bakery sessions last September, and in just one year, he’s made a big impact with his energy, focus, and enthusiasm.

He’s known for his speed – Peter works fast, but always carefully, showing great attention to detail. Using a written schedule, Peter follows recipes independently and rarely needs prompting. His focus during bakery sessions stands out, especially as he’s been noted for finding it more challenging to concentrate in other settings. Here in the bakery, though, he thrives.

One of Peter’s favourite tasks is slicing bread – he’s enthusiastic about it every session and takes pride in his work, often slicing up to 40 loaves in one go. He has also taken part in making a wide range of bakery items including biscuits, muffins, brownies, and cookies.

With his first year now complete, Peter is well-prepared for the next stage of his bakery journey. His commitment and progress are clear to see, and we’re excited to continue supporting his growth next year where he will be working towards kneading, moulding/finishing and using the bun divider moulder in Terms 1 and 2.

The bakery at Prior’s Court is an industry-standard, fully equipped facility which supports autistic young people with complex needs at Prior’s Court to gain vocational skills. It isn’t just about baking skills – it is about work-readiness skills too. The bakery was generously supported by donations.
