As the school holidays draw to a close, we look back on another incredible Summer of Fun. For weeks, young people filled their days with laughter, discovery, and new adventures. The aim, as always, was simple: to provide Enriching Experiences throughout the summer holidays.

Thanks to the support of our Enriching Experiences appeal, this year’s programme of events was bigger, brighter, and more memorable than ever.

Active adventures

One of the highlights of the summer was the wide variety of activities designed to keep young people moving. The climbing wall proved a popular challenge, encouraging bravery and determination in equal measure. Football matches drew together teams of young people and staff, while discos (traditional and silent!) kept everyone dancing and snacking.

The colour run was a lovely event full of energy and fun, while giant inflatables provided hours of laughter as young people bounced, slid, and raced around.

Creative moments

Alongside the action, the Summer of Fun also gave plenty of space for creativity. T-shirt painting sessions allowed everyone to take home something unique, while art workshops encouraged imagination (and some messy play!). Plant potting combined hands-on craft with a chance to learn about nature and a chance to show off what they've learnt in our Potting Shed.

And, of course, slime pits brought a touch of messy fun that had everyone smiling.

Unforgettable encounters

This year’s Summer of Fun also created moments of real wonder. Animal visits gave children the chance to meet new furry and less friends from Spirit of the Wild, while the Berkshire Birds of Prey brought some incredible owls, kestrels and more to meet our incredible young people. One young person even defied their phobia of birds to hold almost every single owl! Amazing!

The ever-popular land train added a sense of adventure, transporting young people on fun-filled journey around our Track.

Community connection

The summer was not only about activities but also about building memories together. Trips into the community opened doors to new places and experiences, while scavenger hunts challenged young people in a fun and engaging way.

Meanwhile, simple moments such as an ice cream on a sunny afternoon reminded us that joy can be found in the little things.

Made possible together

All of this is made possible by the generosity of those who support our Enriching Experiences appeal. Without that support, these opportunities would not exist - opportunities that truly enrich lives, broaden horizons, and create summers to remember.
