Keeping Me Safe is about learning the skills needed to stay safe in all aspects of life, from crossing roads to developing an awareness of what privacy means. Many of our individualised relationship education programmes are taught under this area.

Within this section, there are five programmes of learning which all help the young people we support understand how to keep themselves safe. These programmes of learning are:

  • Understanding safety
  • Understanding privacy
  • Safe use of technology
  • Sex and relationships
  • Drugs, alcohol and tobacco
  • Mental wellbeing
Under each programme of learning, there are skill modules that are taught across the year. Those topics taught at during group sessions are selected and organised across the year based on age and understanding. Some individuals need specific learning in particular areas and this is done based on individual needs following an individual plan.

For example:

Area of Learning: Keeping Me Safe

Programme of learning: Understanding safety

Learning area: In the community; road safety awareness

I can statement: I can recognise when to cross the road and when to wait when supported by staff
