News & events New appeal launched to revitalise our offering to meet sensory needs Prior’s Court has launched a new fundraising appeal to help ensure the autistic young people we support are getting their sensory needs met as thoroughly as possible. The Sensory Appeal is primarily about revitalising our on-site Multi-Sensory Building, which was built in 2015 but is now past its best. The Sensory Appeal is about bringing this building back to its best and with it, providing the right support for the young people at Prior’s Court to manage and regulate their sensory needs. Emma Barnes, our Head of Therapy, said: “Managing and regulating sensory needs is one of the first things we have to get right for any young person at Prior’s Court. If we don’t get it right, young people will miss school, miss medical appointments, not learn new skills and not be able to engage with the world around them. But if we do get it right, so many of the achievements we see here at Prior’s Court become possible for more young people. “After 10 years of use, much of the equipment in the Multi-Sensory Building is either worn out or the technology outdated. Between this, and the number of young people at Prior’s Court growing since 2015, the time is ripe to give this building a new lease of life.” All of the rooms in the Multi-Sensory Building will be overhauled including the soft play room, exploration room and infinity room (calm room). Donate now In addition to works to the Multi-Sensory Building, smaller sensory rooms will be created in some of our residential homes where the young people in those homes currently struggle to transition to the Multi-Sensory Building. This means sensory input can be accessed quickly and easily in their home as soon as it is needed. Emma added: “With your donation, you will make young people’s lives at Prior’s Court brighter as we work towards our ambitions for the young people we support to be happy, healthy, more independent and able to access the world of work.” Donate now Manage Cookie Preferences
