For the second successive year, young people from Prior’s Court have had their artwork exhibited publicly as part of an exhibition of artwork by West Berkshire students, with several attending a private viewing alongside their families.

The exhibition runs from Friday, 9 January to Sunday, 25 January 2026 and is open to the public Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm.

Young people Alexander (pictured) and Ewan attended a private viewing of the exhibition on Thursday, 8 January, with some family members also joining them to see the artwork on display.

Sammi Yarwood, Land-based Instructor at Prior’s Court, who led on the artwork submissions, said:

It is an incredibly meaningful achievement for the young people at Prior's Court to be able to see artwork they have created put on display with their peers from other schools, displayed as equals. I'm so pleased that some of the families of the artists were also able to attend and experience seeing their child's achievements. And a huge thank you to the organisers of the GENerate exhibition for having an hour at the start of the private viewing specifically to support people who needed a quieter time to engage with the exhibiiton. This was massively beneficial for our young people.

The exhibition at The Base follows further success in December, when artwork by Prior’s Court young people was displayed at City Arts Newbury, with two pieces going sold.

About pieces put up for public display

All artwork made by young people at Prior's Court that is put forward for public display is chosen by the young people themselves.

These are pieces they decided not to take back to their on-site residential homes, with families also opting not to display them at home, ensuring that the decision to exhibit respects personal choice while prioritising each young person’s sense of ownership over their work.

This year, the artworks created by autistic young people with complex needs at Prior’s Court and selected for exhibition are:

  • Shadow Fern, by Ewan H

  • I See You, by Alexander and Louis B

  • Fading Botanica, by Louis B

  • Crossroads, by Ryan

  • Wisteria 1 and Wisteria 2, by Jenny, Toby and Daniel L

The pieces reflect a broad range of artistic techniques, including mono printing, mixed media painting, collage and cyanotype photography on cotton. All were created as part of sessions within Prior’s Court’s Land-based learning programme.
