A determined pair of autistic young adults with complex needs supported by Prior's Court have completed a 5k challenge at an iconic Olympics venue, with the support of staff members from their residential home.

Young adults Brandon and Alfie ran the Dorney Lake 5k on Sunday, 15 December, with support from Charlotte House staff members Nathan Elborn and Chris Sturm.

Brandon is a regular participant at Newbury parkrun, often running with Chris, so is an experienced runner when it comes to 5k distances.

For Alfie, this was a new experience and his first 5k race.

Alfie and Brandon both supported each other during the race, with Nathan and Chris running alongside them providing plenty of motivation at the event held at the venue for the 2012 London Olympics rowing and canoeing events.

Team Manager Nathan said: "This was a great achievement for Alfie and Brandon on two levels. Firstly in completing the 5k race, and in a time of 38 minutes too. But also for coping with what was a very busy environment with a lot of people.

"A massive well done to both of them."

Inspired to take on a fundraising run for Prior's Court?

Nathan and Chris have been taking Brandon, Alfie and other young adults in Charlotte House (one of the homes in our Young Adult Provision) to the gym at Northcroft Leisure Centre in recent months to help a) build up their fitness and b) provide the young adults with time in the community.
