This week, volunteers the CarneySweeney offices in both London and Cardiff came together for a varied volunteering day at Prior's Court. From removing overgrown ivy, to breaking up some old wooden desks and building a compost storage area from scratch, these 8 fantastic people got innovative and created some amazing things.

The morning was spent removing some of the ivy from our old listed Courthouse building to prevent it from overgrowing and damaging the brick work, and to prevent our young people attempting to climb it and potentially injuring themselves. This was a task they all completed with enthusiasm, doing a fantastic job and giving the old building a new lease of life.

Their teamwork and strength were then put to the test in the afternoon through a destructive task. In order to create more space for learning in our horticulture area, these volunteers were tasked with removing some old wooden desks and breaking them up so they could be upcycled into a compost heap. They once again greeted this task with enthusiasm and dismantled the desks with gusto!

The true innovation came after this, when pieces of wood and old pallets were used to build an entirely new structure which would be used to teach our young people about composting. The structure they created was truly impressive and will be absolutely perfect for widening the horticultural curriculum for the young people we support.

As always, thank you Carney Sweeney for coming to volunteer with us, and leaving a lasting impact for our young people in the form of this beautiful new structure.
